World-Percussion Project - Dr. Ziegler's goal with the WPP is to explore folk, traditional, and popular music from a variety of countries, and to perform them on western and non-western percussion instruments. In doing so, he hopes to foster in the listener an appreciation for music outside of the western cannon, and to aid in the expansion of the musical and cultural understanding of these regions. Exploring the music of these cultures helps to free ourselves from focusing on differences between “us and them,” and allows us instead to experience the passion, technical expertise, complexity, and humanity shown by individuals, through music, throughout the world.
